Violation of publishing ethics

The editorial board members of the Journal of Economic Geology remind that plagiarism in any of its instances is unacceptable:

  1. Plagiarism: Plagiarism is the use of ideas and main parts of others (without citing the source) in a way that makes it appear as if they are your own. Copying even a single sentence from another person’s articles, or even articles you have previously published, without proper citation, is considered plagiarism by Journal of Economic Geology. All articles reviewed or published in this magazine are matched with plagiarism detection software such as iThenticate. Therefore, plagiarism is a serious violation of publishing ethics.
  2. Simultaneous submission: You must ensure that the article you submit has not been previously published anywhere else in any other language and is not submitted simultaneously to other publications.
  3. Duplicate Publication: Duplicate publication occurs when two or more articles use the exact same hypothesis, data, and results without proper referencing.
  4. Redundant Publication: Redundant publication refers to the inappropriate division of information from a study into multiple articles, which often occurs due to an individual's desire to complete their academic resume.
  5. Data falsification: Data falsification means that the researcher did not actually conduct the study but rather presented unrealistic and fabricated data and results, or that he conducted the experiment but deleted, manipulated, or altered the data or research results.
  6. Citation Manipulation: Citation manipulation refers to excessive citations in a submitted paper that do not contribute to the scientific content of the paper and are done solely for the purpose of increasing citations to the work of a particular author or articles published in a particular journal. This misrepresents the importance of the work or journal being cited and is therefore considered a form of scientific misconduct.
  7. Inappropriate Author Contributions or Attribution: All listed authors must have made a significant contribution to the research presented in the article and must have confirmed all of its claims.

Handling violation cases

The editorial board of the Journal of Economic Geology will take the necessary steps to review incoming articles for authenticity, reliability of the information provided, and proper use of citations and references, and will apply the following policies in the event of plagiarism being identified in any article submitted to the journal, and will take appropriate action. If any unethical behavior is detected by the journal's editorial board or by one of the referees, the first step is to notify the editor by providing copies of the relevant material and a draft letter to the author responsible for the article, requesting an appropriate explanation without judgment. If the violation is of lesser severity, the editor will, as recommended by the Publication Ethics Committee, send a letter of reprimand to the author and remind him of the publication policies of the JJournal of Economic Geology. If the article has been published, the editor may request the author to publish an apology in the journal to correct the record. If the author's explanation is unacceptable and it appears that serious unethical behavior has occurred, the matter will be referred to the Publication Committee via the Editorial Board. After review, the Committee will decide whether the case is serious enough to warrant a ban on further submissions.

Sanctions: In cases of severe violations, the matter will be reported to the author's relevant organization, and the authors will not be allowed to submit articles to the Journal of Economic Geology for five years.
